Ruth Ohl, 100, of Ashland, died March 8, 2010, at Brethren Care Village in Ashland. Born June 13, 1909, in Ashland, she was the daughter of Robert and Sarah (Troup) Shreffler. A homemaker and farmers wife, Ruth was an Ashland resident all her life and was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was a 70 year member of the Sewing Circle at Ashland Brethren In Christ Church where she knotted quilts and enjoyed chatting, doing devotions and praying. The quilts were given as gifts which were shared all over the world. In her later years, she enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels at her home and Hospice House. She never learned to drive, walking everywhere she went and was a very independent person who was always helping others. Surviving are three nephews, James Sayers of Perrysville, Stephen Shreffler of Troy and Tim Shreffler of Ashland; three nieces, Susan Wallace, Babette Jennings of Warren and Terrie Shreffler of Ashland; ten great nieces and nephews and four great great nieces and nephews; two sisters-in-law, Jennie Shreffler of Ashland and Mable Shreffler; and a special friend, Denise Brown as well as many other friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond Ohl in 1977; three brothers, Lloyd, Robert and Gordon Shreffler; and two sisters, Lena Sayers and Mary Jane Shreffler. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland, Ohio conducted by Pastor James Cox. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or to Hospice of North Central Ohio.
