George J. Bassler, 88, of Butler, died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at MedCentral Mansfield. Born October 11, 1921, in Defiance, Ohio, he was the son of Adolf G. and Susan (Zellner) Bassler. A self employed homebuilder and designer, he enjoyed making clocks and watches and was considered to be a jack of all trades. He was a former member of the Ashland Bowmen.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Vivian (Webb) Bassler; a son, Lester Darr Bassler of Ashland; a brother, James Runyan of Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call from 1-4 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2010, at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Michael Workman. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
